architectural design i
structured as an introduction to architectural design, this preliminary design module aims to present and explain design through the expression of the perception of ‘self’ and the body, construction, and materiality in terms of tectonics. we undertake studio-based exercises and assignments that introduce the fundamental methods, principles and approaches in design thinking and basic spatial design.
01
geometry & form
in my first architectural design i project, I delved into diverse design principles and fundamental elements like point, line, and plane. this hands-on experience not only acquainted me with the concepts but also honed my practical model-making skills, allowing me to articulate my ideas seamlessly in 3d space.
02
structure & body (bamboo)
this project taught me how to independently produce orthographic drawings with standard templates such as north point, column grids, section line, and etc. with this project i also learnt how to draw axonometric and perspective drawings.
03
space and sensory
this project is a fusion between architectural design i and design communication. here, i was tasked to produce my own orthographic drawings, an exploded axonometry, joinery details and many more. i found it quite challenging as this time i had no reference but my own design but in the end it was rather worth it to see my ideas come to life.
module
reflection
for my first studio, i was introduced to the basics of design, taking into account structure and body, spatial experience and how it relates to emotions. my tutor for project 1 and 2, Ms. Wey Shan Lim has given great feedback every studio session and shaped my understanding of architectural design process.
